This Privacy Policy explains what information Trustburn ("Trustburn", "we", "us") collects when you use trustburn.com and trustburn.org (the "Service"), how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies whether you're reading reviews, writing a review, or managing a business account.
1. Information we collect
Account information. When you create an account we collect your name, email address, and password (stored hashed, never in plain text). If you sign in with a third-party provider, we receive the basic profile details that provider shares with us.
Reviews and content you post. Anything you submit — reviews, ratings, replies, photos, messages to a business, or a News & Press article — is stored along with the date, and, where relevant to moderation, technical metadata such as your IP address.
Business account & company data. If you claim or add a business listing, we store the company details you provide (name, website, category, description) and your relationship to that company (owner/manager).
Payment information. Paid plans and one-time purchases (subscriptions, News & Press articles, Priority Spotlight) are processed by Stripe. We do not store your card number — Stripe handles it directly and shares with us only what we need to run your account: the plan, amount, status, and a payment reference.
Usage and device data. Like most websites, we automatically log things such as your IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, and referring URL, mainly for security and to understand how the Service is used.

2. How we use your information
- To operate the Service — create your account, display your reviews, run your business dashboard, and process payments.
- To moderate content — detect fake, abusive, or policy-violating reviews and listings.
- To communicate with you — service notifications, review replies, receipts, and (if you opt in) product updates.
- To keep the Service secure — fraud prevention, rate-limiting, and abuse detection.
- To improve the Service — aggregated, non-identifying analysis of how features are used.
3. Cookies and tracking technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies for three purposes: keeping you signed in (essential), remembering preferences like your theme or language (functional), and understanding aggregate traffic patterns (analytics). You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings; blocking essential cookies will prevent you from staying signed in.
4. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- Service providers who help us run the Service under contract — payment processing (Stripe), hosting, email delivery, and analytics.
- Other users, to the extent you make information public — your published reviews, display name, and any business page you manage are visible to visitors by design.
- Legal authorities, if required by law, subpoena, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Trustburn, our users, or the public.
- A successor entity, if Trustburn is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets — you'll be notified before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
5. Data retention
We keep account and review data for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterward to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Payment records are retained as required by tax and accounting law.
6. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, object to or restrict certain processing, and receive a copy of your data in a portable format. You can update most account details yourself from Account Settings, edit or delete your own reviews at any time, or contact us to exercise any of these rights.
7. Data security
We use industry-standard measures — encryption in transit, hashed passwords, and access controls — to protect your information. No system is 100% secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security, but we work to keep your data safe and to respond quickly if something goes wrong.
8. Children's privacy
The Service is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we'll remove it.
9. International users
Trustburn is available in multiple regions and languages. If you access the Service from outside the country where our servers are located, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed there. We take steps to ensure it's handled consistently with this Policy wherever it's processed.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you directly. Continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated Policy.
